I’ve always seen the value of Preference and our Staffing & Search divisions. I came as a candidate looking for work, I worked on our administrative team for 3 years and have had the opportunity to work with our team for now 7 years. I have seen firsthand how our consultants are making an impact and helping those in our community reach their full potential through coaching, interviewing and just taking time to connect with the people that come through our doors.
However, in 2025, this was the first time I’ve been on the “client” side and worked with our team to hire someone internally for our PEO division. Obviously, I’m biased because I love our team, but I’ve been blown away watching our team come together, rally the troops and work together to identify someone that would not only fit our unique culture, but our very interesting hiring needs. The time and dedication our team took to meet with individuals is priceless to our division.
We have been running lean and have been focused on closing out the busiest time of the year. Open enrollment, year-end filings, and wrapping up everything for 2024 was a lot! We had zero time for interviewing or even thinking about interviewing. We were all stressed to the max, how could we find an additional hour or two to sift through a posting or look at resumes?! I’m sure you have been there as a business owner or hiring manager. We are ALL busy regardless of the industry.
Judging someone by their resume is doing a disservice to your team and the applicant. Some of the most promising resumes we saw ended up just not being the right fit, and the ones we wanted to pass on had great potential. That’s where our team came in to help. All divisions worked together to look at candidates and try to identify top talent for our internal role. Our Industrial team and Administrative team referred candidates to our Professional team and Cory led the way on interviews.
I kept telling him I felt so bad having him spend hours interviewing and asking the tough questions. He would always say, “I love to do this! It’s what I am good at!” For me it felt like a chore and WAY too overwhelming. For Cory, and the rest of our team, this is what they thrive on and brings them energy.
The time and dedication our team has in meeting candidates and learning about the hiring needs of the company has been fun to see now being on the other side at Preference. If you are sifting through 50 resumes on the job boards, or just feeling overwhelmed with the hiring process, I’ve been there, and I even love HR! Call our team, I know they’d enjoy connecting.
