George: The Reason I Do What I Do

Let me tell you about my friend George. We first crossed paths in 2017, he came in as a candidate looking for a new job and little did I know then that this meeting would evolve into a meaningful connection that spans years. At the time we weren’t able to find him the right fit.  In 2021, George came back in, and I had a client that was looking for a skilled accountant. George was having a hard time landing an accounting role as most of his experience was from another country. Our client interviewed George and was impressed with him. He brought him on and made him an employee.

 Why I Like George:

There are countless reasons why George stands out, but here are a few that particularly resonate with me:

  • Positive and Enthusiastic: George has an infectious positivity that lights up any room he walks into.
  • Excellent Work Experience and Skillset: George brings a wealth of experience and skills from another country. His diverse background adds immense value to any team he joins.
  • Huge Heart and Curiosity in others: George is genuinely caring. Every time we talk, he never fails to ask about my family. This simple gesture speaks volumes about his character and the kind of person he is.

What I Learned from George:

George’s journey and our conversations have taught me many valuable lessons. One of the most important is the significance of treating people with kindness and respect, both in professional and personal settings. George exemplifies this through his actions and words.

A much-needed heartfelt message from George:

Here’s an email I received from George that changed my week:

Hello Cory,

It’s been a while since we last spoke, and I just wanted to check in with you and see how things are going. Hope you are doing great and your family as well.

Things are very good. I really appreciate what you did for me. They treat me more like family rather than just an ordinary employee. That’s The Dream!

Thank you again and Happy Thanksgiving to you and the Preference Family!

George

Reading this email reminded me why I do what I do. I was having a rough week (recruiting is not for the faint of heart) and it seemed what could go wrong did go wrong. George changed my week!  His gratitude and satisfaction with his job reaffirm my commitment to helping people find not just employment, but a place where they feel valued and respected.

After 3 years of helping George find his dream job:

I walked into the office after my lunch break and my coworker of nearly 13 years, Todd, handed me a note with the name “George” on it. He said, “George is here with his mom who just moved to America and he would like to say Hi to you.” I dropped in and said hi to George and he greeted me with the warmest and biggest “my man”! We small talked for a while and Geroge said what I did for him greatly impacted his life. He said he had to bring his Mom in to connect her with Preference after we were so great to him. Once again one of the first things George asked me was how was my family? He remembered I had two kids….

George is a testament to the power of positivity, gratitude, and human connection. He continues to inspire me to continue doing my best in helping others find their dream jobs. After all, it’s people like George who remind us of the real reason behind our work.

Thank you, George, for being a constant source of inspiration and for reminding me why I do what I do.
